First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) Service

Do you have a Musculoskeletal (MSK) problem?

You can access the First Contact Physiotherapy (FCP) Service for quick support, rather than visiting your GP. FCPs are specialised physiotherapists who can assess and diagnose MSK conditions, provide expert management advice, and refer you to specialists if necessary.

Using FCP, you gain rapid access to expert guidance, which helps prevent short-term issues from becoming chronic and shortens overall treatment times.

FCPs can assist with various conditions, including soft tissue injuries, joint pain, spinal issues, and post-surgical concerns. However, they can't see acutely unwell patients, anyone under 16, or those with specific conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, mental health crises, or requiring medication reviews.

During your appointment, the FCP will take a brief history, perform clinical tests, and provide self-management advice. If further treatment is needed, they will refer you to physiotherapy services.

To book, visit our appointments page and ask the receptionist to set up your appointment.

Cervical Screening: Smear Tests

Women aged between 24 and 64 should have a cervical screening every 3 to 5 years to help prevent cervical cancer. The screening is quick and painless and can be done here in the practice.

If you are aged over 24 and have never had a smear test, or if it has been more than 3 to 5 years since your last screening, you should arrange an appointment with our Practice Nurse. You should not have the test while you are having a period or in the 4 days before or after your period as this can affect the sample.

MMR Vaccination in Children

What is the MMR vaccination?

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella.

These 3 infections are spread easily and can lead to serious problems such as meningitis, blindness and hearing loss.

This vaccine can help protect your child, and the people around them.

Side effects

Common side effects are usually mild and only last 2-3 days:

  • rash
  • feeling unwell
  • high temperature
  • swollen glands around cheeks, neck and jaw
  • aching in joints

More serious side effects are rare.

Medical professionals who administer the vaccine are trained to deal with allergic reactions.

It's important that vaccines are given on time for the best protection, but if you or your child missed a vaccine, contact your GP to catch up.

Research has shown that there is no link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

When should my child be getting the MMR vaccination?

Following the NHS Childhood Vaccination Schedule, the 2 doses of the MMR vaccine are given at 1 year old and 3 years 4 months old.

If you or your child have missed any of the doses, please book an appointment at your local GP, as the MMR vaccination can be given at any age.

NHS Childhood Vaccination Schedule

The NHS Childhood Vaccination Schedule includes all the routine immunizations for babies and children up to the age of 14 in the UK. This helps to protect children from certain illnesses and diseases.
